Since the introduction of the “new style driving test” in December 2017 we have seen a noticeable increase in the distance covered lesson by lesson due to the introduction of the new test routes taking in rural roads and hazards. This has had an impact on the overall mileage and fuel consumption of our vehicles. Coupled with this we have seen a significant increase in the cost of fuel at the pumps with Diesel currently around £1.30 per litre and no reduction in sight!
Looking at the bigger picture, we have seen an increase in costs related to the business in respect of insurance, frequency of servicing and the general upkeep of the vehicles.
We have been monitoring the situation carefully and up until now we have tried to absorb the impact of these changes. We have always tried to price our lessons fairly and we will continue to do so. It has become unrealistic for us to continue to absorb these costs so we have taken the decision to increase our hourly lesson fee rate from £23 to £24 effective from 1st November 2018 which we still believe to be a fair price within our local area and the surrounding districts of Rotherham.
Any pre-paid arrangements will obviously be honoured and those customers who already have a test booked will remain on the present rate up until the test.
